Burnham Beeches

Burnham Beeches is a legendary mansion tucked away in Sherbooke, about 40 minutes away from the Melbourne CBD.

The exquisite mansion is in Art-Deco style, a type of architecture that emerged in the 1930s and has been maintained in that style until today.

This luxurious mansion was constructed between 1929-1933 for Alfred Nicholas, an astute businessman who is best known for manufacturing and selling aspirin in Australia in the 1920s and 1930s.

The property obtained its name from the Beech trees located in the UK. This was significant because one of Nicholas’ company was located in Buckinghamshire, UK. The mansion has, over the years, undergone renovation in order to restore its glory and modernise it for use today.

In addition to the original building, Burnham Beeches also has two newer buildings constructed in the 1980s. Plans are in the works to turn the historic mansion into a 6-star hotel.

Apart from the plush mansion, the estate also boasts lush gardens against the background of beautiful countryside. The greenhouses on location grow vegetables, while the mill has become an affiliated micro-brewery, known for having the best beer in the Dandenong Ranges.

Visit Burnham Bakery for fresh pastries and indulge in the signature bread, baked with passion. Alternatively, swing by the cafe to enjoy great cuisine. Piggery cafe is located on site and has a warm ambience and tasty food. Other features at Burnham Beeches include manicured lawns, tables and outdoor seating space as well as bocce pitches.

So come and spend a day at Burnham Beeches with a tasty lunch and a walk around this beautiful landmark in the Dandenong Ranges.
