Lysterfield Park

Lysterfield Park is located on Horswood Road in Lysterfield and is a worthy tourist attraction thanks to its beautiful natural features. With an array of recreational activities, it is little wonder that Lysterfield Park is popular with both locals and visitors to the Dandenong Ranges.

The park is ideal for outdoor activities such as mountain biking, as nothing comes close to biking in the crisp air and the quiet serenity of the nature park. There are two biking trails within the park; the State Mountain Bike Course and the Lysterfield Park Mountain Bike Trails – both of which cover a total of 20kms. The biking trails are ideal for all riders; whether professional or amateur.

Visitors interested in enjoying the natural aura of Lysterfield Park can also take a walk on the many walking trails that dot the landscape. The beauty of this park is that there are easy trails for families bringing along young children as the trails range from easy to moderate in difficulty. For adrenaline-junkies and fitness enthusiasts, there are steep walking trails that traverse through rocky terrain which make for a more challenging experience.

Within the park is Lysterfield Lake, which is a popular spot known for its numerous recreational activities. Sailing, kayaking and surf skiing are just some of the activities that visitors can enjoy. Or, if you are after something a little more relaxing, simply sit at any of the beautiful spots along the shore and watch the sun go down.

Lysterfield Park is accessible from Horswood Road that takes a turn from Belgrave-Hallam Road. Opening hours are between 8am and 8pm during daylight savings time. At all other times, the park closes at around 7pm.

    • Hi Kerrie,

I am not sure if the cafe is open, I believe it closed in 2016, but not sure if it has reopened. If you would like to take a picnic, there are two picnic areas along the lake shore and both have toilets, picnic tables and free electric barbecues which visitors are free to use.

      Best regards,
      Jess

    • Hi Rob,

Park regulations do not permit recreational fishing, but fishing tuition by authorised groups is permitted from jetties on the western shoreline. Lysterfield Lake was stocked in the 1980s, predominantly with Brown Trout, and further stocked with Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout in 1995.

      Best regards,
      Jess

    • Hi Nola,

The latest information on the cafe from Lysterfield Park is as follows:

      Parks Victoria – 30 November 2016
The Trailmix Café at Lysterfield Park is currently closed. It is anticipated that expressions of interest for a new lease of the site will be sought. Parks Victoria will assess the options for the future management of the former Trailmix cafe to ensure the best outcome for the park, the community and the local tourism industry. Normally an expression of interest process takes 6-12 months, however this is dependent on the successful proponent and the proposals put forward.

      Kind regards,
      Jess
